TOM Walker revealed he is a big fan of one of Wrexham AFC’s co-owners and declared his interest in performing a gig at the Racecourse Ground.

The Scottish singer-songwriter is set to perform two free gigs at Queen’s Square in Wrexham on Sunday (March 17).

The 32-year-old will be playing one gig at 11am and another at 1pm, both expected to last around 30 to 40 minutes.

The artist, known for tracks such as ‘Leave a Light On’ and ‘Just You and I’ is promoting a host of new music ahead of his album release this summer.

In the build up to the release of ‘I Am’ later this year, Tom has started visiting towns and cities “often left off” touring schedules and performing free gigs.

After creating the idea with TikTok star ‘Spudman’ in Tamworth, the idea has gone from strength to strength.

Speaking exclusively to the Leader, Tom said: “It all started with Spudman in Tamworth. I thought I’ve got a single to promote and thought we could collab together.

“So we set up a gig in Tamworth and so many people turned up it was mad. I’m pretty sure the whole town came down. Then Barnsley was even bigger and better than that.

“I just thought it was a such a lovely idea really to get around these towns and cities that often get left out of tour schedules.

“It’s a win win really.”

In preparation of his visit to Wrexham, Tom started watching the hit docu-series Welcome to Wrexham, thanks to his love of Rob McElhenney.

“I started watching it this week and I’m absolutely loving it. I’m not the biggest football fan because music takes up so much of my time, but it is so good, I’m on episode seven at the minute.

“I’m a huge Rob McElhenney fan too, I absolutely love Always Sunny in Philadelphia, so that helps too.”

When Rob and co-chairman Ryan Reynolds took over in 2021, they said they would explore the possibilities of the odd gig at the newly named SToK Cae Ras.

Last year, Kings of Leon performed two sell out shows and when asked if a gig at the Racecourse would appeal on a tour in the future, Tom had no hesitations.

“That would be amazing, I’d definitely be up for that,” he said.

Tom added: “With these gigs, I’m trying to encourage artists and bands to visit cities and towns like this, so I’d love to go back to Wrexham.

“I’ve worked my arse off on this new album and it’s probably the best thing I’ve ever done, so I can’t wait to get out and meet everyone this weekend.”
