WREXHAM'S Member of the Senedd (MS) has praised the documentary all about the football club for promoting all things Wrexham to a 'global audience'.

The Welcome to Wrexham documentary proved hugely popular when it first aired on Disney Plus last year, drawing in new Reds fans from the USA, Canada and beyond.

But, as well as promoting Wrexham AFC and its takeover by Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, it also shone a spotlight on the community's biggest characters - from the likes of Turf landlord Wayne Jones to Mad4Movies' Rob Clarke.

Such was the first season's success that Welcome to Wrexham was renewed for a second series which showcased Wrexham's promotion back to the English Football League.

Wrexham MS Lesley Griffiths is a lifelong Wrexham fan and was there the day the club ended its 15-year wait to return to the 'big time' via a 3-1 win over Boreham Wood at the STok Cae Ras in April.

The MS has praised the documentary for the effect it's had on the city.

She said: "I thoroughly enjoyed season two of Welcome to Wrexham.  The series is about so much more than football.  I particularly found the episode - Family Business - very moving.

"Sometimes we forget about the people who have supported and encouraged members of their family to attain and achieve and it was emotional to see the family links."

Mrs Griffiths added: "Of course, the final episode was just wonderful - remembering that amazing (promotion-winning) day and evening in our club’s history was fantastic. I was at the match with my daughter and will never forget it. I have been at matches where we have been promoted before but this was on a different scale and being able to watch it all again was amazing.

"Welcome to Wrexham has given our city a global audience. I have seen social media posts shared from people on holiday in the United States for example where they have been greeted with a large poster advertising the series.

"Rob and Ryan have again brought that global focus. They are well known stars in their field and the fact they talk about, promote and celebrate both our club and the community of Wrexham is very positive.

"I look forward to the next series, season and exciting chapter."
