UK HOLIDAYMAKERS have named Flintshire in Wales as their favourite place to camp, according to customer ratings on a leading booking site.

The North Wales county ranked top in four out of nine customer rating categories on the booking site Pitchup.com including overall satisfaction, location, quality, and facilities, and came equal top with Monmouthshire in the cleanliness category.

Overall, Wales was rated as the best UK country in which to camp for the second year running by Pitchup.com users, attracting more than 22,000 ratings on the booking site.

Dan Yates, founder of Pitchup.com, said Flintshire was attractive to campers for many reasons, including the rugged landscape and history.

He said: “Flintshire has something for everyone. It is well known for its history with beautiful castles and abbeys dotted around the stunning countryside, as well as signs of its former mining heritage.

“With large, rugged, open spaces it is fantastic for walking and cycling, water sports on the River Dee, and has a plethora of welcoming towns and villages serving fantastic local produce.

“It is no wonder it is the most popular place in the UK to camp.”

He added that it was easy to see why Wales as a country remains so popular with outdoor enthusiasts.

“Wales is a country of rugged beauty and it is no surprise it is the destination of choice for campers who want to really get out into the wilderness and seek a more adventurous break.

“It has everything a true lover of the outdoors wants, from plush green countryside and rolling hills, to gnarly mountains, rugged coastlines, and isolated places where you might not see another soul for hours."
