A GLOBAL Cancer Awareness Night held at Wrexham's famous pub was a roaring success.

The Terry Fox Foundation Canada collaborated with the UK branch to organise a night of entertainment for a very worthy cause.

After hearing of Declan Swans' Michael Hett's cancer battle on the 'Welcome to Wrexham' documentary, the Terry Fox Foundation approached the band to arrange an event to be held in the town.

The Leader:

Terry Fox, a 22-year-old Canadian athlete, lost his leg to osteogenic sarcoma, a rare bone cancer, making headlines in the 1980s when he ran over 3,339 miles to raise awareness and money for Cancer Research.

Sadly, he passed away on June 28, 1981, a month shy of his 23rd birthday and less than a year after his fundraising challenge.

The Declan Swans performed on the night which was a roaring success according to all those who attended.

The Turf hosted the event on Friday, September 8, with live music, plenty of refreshments and a raffle.

Over £830 has been raised so far of the JustGiving £1,000 target which can be found here.
