The Teaching Assistant of the year award recognised a staff member that raises the aspirations of pupils and help them to reach new heights.

The award also celebrated someone, who always gives exceptional service and makes a real difference to their pupils learning through their work.

The winner of this award was Jessica Mayos, a teaching assistant at Victoria CP School in Wrexham. 

Jessica Mayos helps children with their confidence and mental health and so many parents have come and thanked her for being such a supportive and inspiring role model.

In addition to her duties as a teaching assistant, Jessica trained to catheterise a little girl who needs medical assistance twice a day, every day. 

Discussing her win, Miss Mayos said: "I am shocked and honoured to receive this award.

"I would like to thank the head and the Senco at my school for their support."

Miss Mayos is passionate about education, she said: "I love what I do and I try to always do the extra things to support the children."

She added: "From my own experiences suffering with mental health struggles I try to inspire and work with children going through difficulties."

Miss Mayos went on to thank her entire team at Victoria CP School. 

Other nominees for this award included Samantha Oulton, who is described as having a heart of gold and supports not only the students but also the families. 

In addition, Val Joy is a teaching assistant working in early years that help raise the confidence of children in her care.

The award was presented by New Directors Chief Commercial Officer, Gary Williams.
