The primary school of the year award was awarded to the primary school who, in the opinion of the judges, has had an outstanding academic year.

This may be improvements in attendance levels, parent engagement or examination results as well as made or built upon partnerships in the local or business community, achieved new green credentials, or achieved competition success.

The winner of this award was Gwersyllt Community Primary school. The school received this recognition due to their investors in families award, reaching the highest standard possible showing their comprehensive long-standing work that has impacted positively on families and pupils.

In a statement made via the school website, Headteacher Joel Moore said: “I am delighted and proud to say that we won school of the year across the two counties on Wednesday.

“We have an award coming to us soon and we hope to celebrate it in assembly when it is delivered.

“My understanding is that it does involve parental feedback, a huge thank you to everyone who put our name forward for this and a huge thank you from me to the staff and pupils, who, as usual, are fantastic.”

Other schools nominated for this award included Acton Park Primary school, that was described as a friendly, caring and nurturing school with a ‘family feel’. 

In addition, Queensferry Community Primary School that was described as not just a school, but a community filled with so much love for each other.

The award was presented by Lyndsay Andrews the Director of Excell and accepted by Leader Live community content editor Claire Pierce.
