Wrexham AFC women took on Connah’s Quay Nomads at the Racecourse to a record-breaking crowd today (Sunday, March 26).

A total of 9,511 gathered with excitement and saw the team become the Genero Adran North Champions.

It was a record-breaking crowd, with the previous title for a domestic women’s game in Wales being 5,175.

Wrexham flags filled the crowd, having been handed out by staff and even police officers before the match.

Before the match, one fan Lee Davies was excited about the match and its significance to women’s sports in Wales.

He said: “It’s definitely (a big game), especially the women’s game. It’s a good crowd.”

Young fans Lola-Rae Duckett, Willow Jones, and Penny Jones were looking forward to the match, with Penny saying she was so excited she “could burst".

Groups of children, including girls' football teams, were all in attendance at the match, with many cheering for both teams today.

The Racecourse had an electric atmosphere throughout the match, with Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney in attendance for the match, as promised. They also saw the men's match yesterday (Saturday, March 25) where they won 3-0 againt York City.

The co-owners were on the pitch prior to the match, during the warm-ups to the delight of many fans.

It was a tight match, and at half time it was 1-1 with a goal from TJ Dickens, and then from Connah’s Quay Nomad’s Ella Harvey.

In the second half, a late Rosie Hughes goal turned out to be the winner, and Wrexham walked away with all three points.
