A FLINTSHIRE football club is dedicating this weekend's match to a seven-year-old "superhero" after his tragic terminal cancer diagnoses.

The Leader has followed the story of brave little Aaron Wharton, from Buckley - who has been through multiple surgeries after developing brain tumours because of his anaplastic ependymoma, when aged just four.

The youngster has since had to endure several rounds of brain surgery along with routine scans after he was diagnosed at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic to monitor the progress of his condition.

He had endured a gruelling recovery – losing his ability to eat and speak – before starting his education at Southdown Primary School in Buckley.

However, his family suffered heartbreaking news in 2021 that Aaron’s tumour had returned.

Tragically, Aaron's tumour is now terminal - and his family is making memories with the time they have left with him.

A fundraising page for Aaron's family has so far raised over £5,300. You can donate to it at https://gofund.me/940a4931.

And this Saturday, Buckley Town FC is dedicating its home game vs Penrhyncoch FC in the JD Cymru North leagues to Aaron.

The club said on social media: "His young life has been tough, but the way he’s faced his illness is an inspiration to all of us. Aaron and his family live in Buckley, and will be our VIP guests this weekend; we’ll give him all the love he deserves and hopefully a day to remember for everyone.

"Devastatingly, Aaron’s illness is now terminal and as you’d imagine, his parents can’t work full time, so we’re looking for the incredible Buckley gang to maybe take away some of the financial worry, and help Aaron’s amazing family create as many memories as they can.

"Aaron will be on the pitch pre-match with the squad, and we’ll ensure that he spends some time with his favourite player, Max Moore. The proceeds of our Match Day raffle will be donated to Aaron’s family and we’d appreciate your help in any way."
