WREXHAM AFC co-owner Rob McElhenney praised Wales' fighting spirit during their World Cup opener against the USA.

A late Gareth Bale penalty was enough to secure a 1-1 draw againt a tough USA side in the first Group B match.

And the loyalties were seemingly split for Rob, who took over control of North Wales club Wrexham with Ryan Reynolds in early 2021.

Rob, who is of course American, was full of admiration for Wales as they battled through to the end.

The It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia star took to Twitter, mid-game as the USA were 1-0 up, to write: "One thing I know about the Welsh: They never, ever, ever, ever give up. This game won’t be over until that final whistle blows!"

And his prediction came true when Welsh legend Bale stepped up to convert his penalty past USA goalkeeper Matt Turner in the 82nd minute.

And Rob was quick to provide some further moral support for both sides as they face the prospect of taking on Iran and England for their remaining matches.

He added: "Now let's both go give 'em all hell! See you soon England and Iran .."

Wales face Iran on Friday (November 25) in what will be a 10am kick off.

They will then take on old foes England on Tuesday, November 29 (7pm) in what could well prove to be a vital match in qualifying for the next round.
