HOLLYWOOD stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney's takeover of Wrexham AFC has been approved by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCT).

In November, members of the supporters' trust voted overwhelmingly in favour of Deadpool actor Reynolds and fellow actor and producer McElhenney's offer to buy the club.

The Wrexham AFC Supporters' Trust, the current owners, confirmed on Friday afternoon that the takeover has now been approved.

A statement said: "Last month we informed supporters that contracts had been exchanged and the sale of the Club was pending approval of a change to our rules- as voted for by WST members- by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).

"We would like to thank supporters for their patience in this process and reassure you the Wrexham Supporters Trust will make a full statement once this is completed."

McElhenney and Reynolds had already donated money to the club to strengthen the squad before the transfer deadline while waiting for the takeover to be approved by the FCA.
