A PAINTER-decorater has been left 'quite overwhelmed' by the messages he received after he appeared in the latest 'Welcome to Wrexham' episodes.

The documentary series follows the takeover of Wrexham AFC by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

Currently being released twice-a-week on a Thursday on Disney Plus, the series also follows some of the local die-hard fans of the club.

Last week, the Leader reported on Turf landlord Wayne Jones becoming an overnight internet sensation after his appearance on the first two episodes of the documentary series.

In episodes three and four, it was the turn of local painter Shaun Winter to steal a bit of the spotlight.

In those episodes, Shaun opened up on how he had recently split up from the mother of his two children and how life had changed for him and the kids since.

He tells of how he has been a painter for the last 15 years and that his grandfather and father before him were also in the same line of work, although he also admits that he 'f***ing hates it'.

He adds that working jobs for the council leads to him always using the same colour of paint - 'everyday, without fail - magnolia' - something which left Twitter users amused.

Straight-talking Shaun also spoke of how he had doubted that the takeover by Ryan and Rob would take place and of how the football club has been a huge focal point in his life.

In one scene, where he and his sons take to the Racecourse field, Shaun says: "This football club, this ground, it's everything."

He adds: "It's more than football, it's more than just having a pint, it's your mental well-being as well and I truly believe that."

Taking to Twitter to give his thoughts after the episodes aired, Shaun said: "Quite overwhelmed by the messages and comments!! Really appreciate it nice one!"

He added: "I get the feeling I may hear the magnolia shout quite a bit now. Everyone needs a bit of colour surely."
