Someone will be seriously injured or killed if safety improvements are not made at a Wrexham roundabout, a resident has said.

In March Ruabon resident Kevin Andrews raised concerns about drivers on the A539.

He believed people were speeding and coming round the roundabout, near Costa Coffee, too quickly before losing control.

And he said he could regularly hear consistent beeping and anti-social driving, as he lives near the site.

Mr Andrews explained that on Sunday morning, a car left the road and ended up in the trees behind his garden.

He said: "As I looked out of my window, I saw the flashing light and then I realised the car was being lifted out of the trees.

"If it'd gone any further it would have been in my garden.

"I don't know how it came off the road but it seems to have come straight over and down the bank.

"The barrier that blocks off the footpath has been replaced - but the council has not replaced the one alongside the road, which is the most dangerous part."

Speaking of his concerns over the situation, he added: "Someone is going to get killed.

"If this had happened few hours later, or on a school day, anyone walking on this footpath would have been dead.

"I hear the noise as well; beeping all morning. Whether it's people in the wrong lane or not indicating I don't know."

Mr Andrews said he understands discussions are taking place over the potential improvement of road markings at the site - but he said while it might reduce the beeping, such a move would not curb people's speed.

He told the Leader previously that the anti-social issues in the area began with "boy racers" congregating in the Aldi and Costa car park, but that has since reduced.

Simon Baynes MP said: “I share Mr Andrews’ concerns about speeding traffic and also traffic accidents on the A539 roundabout by his house and hope Wrexham Council and the police will take the necessary action to slow the traffic down for the sake of the local residents and road safety.”

A spokesperson for Wrexham Council said: "The pedestrian barrier was damaged when a car left the road. We are arranging for it to be repaired as soon as possible.”

A North Wales Police spokesman said: "We were in attendance to a single-vehicle road traffic collision which happened on the Ruabon services roundabout in Ruabon, shortly before 6am on Sunday, July 17th, involving a Vauxhall Astra.

"The vehicle was unattended by the driver when officers arrived at the scene.

"The road was closed while officers dealt with the incident.

"Officers have carried out significant work in the past due to reports of anti-social driving around the service station in Ruabon, which resulted in barriers being placed at the location.

"However, we are not aware of any recent reports of any further anti-social driving in the area.

"We encourage anyone who is experiencing anti-social behaviour in their area to report it to police on 101, or via the website."
