AN INNOCENT person could be "killed" if action isn't taken to clamp down on dangerous driving in Ruabon, a resident has warned.

Kevin Andrews, 59, said he has told North Wales Police and Wrexham Council of his worries over the A539 Llangollen Road.

He told the Leader that in the last week alone, two collisions occurred in close proximity to a crossing near the Costa Coffee roundabout.

"The speed limit there is 30 miles per hour," he said.

"But there's no way they're doing 30.

"Motorists are speeding around the roundabout, losing control and crashing into the pedestrian barriers.

"We keep saying someone is going to get killed here and unfortunately it'll be an innocent person.

"The crash which happened the other day missed the crossing by inches.

"The car itself ended up three or four hundred yards down the road."

Mr Andrews said the impact of anti-social driving is felt by the whole community, adding: "It started with boy racers congregating in the Aldi and Costa car park originally.

"We raised our concerns with the local councillors because it was getting to be a nightly occurrence.

"That did quieten down when there were barriers put up in the car park but now it's the speed people are using that roundabout.

"We have lived in Ruabon for three years now, and it can be nerve-racking to drive there.

"We can sit here [at home] and all you hear all the time is the beeping where they are cutting people up on the roundabout.

"Sometimes it's just a nightmare.

"There have been two neighbours who have had enough of it and they've just moved."

Pen-y-cae and Ruabon South Councillor Joan Lowe said: "I use that road regularly and I can honestly say that I personally have not experienced any problems, but I do know of people who have.

"It is really quite a busy roundabout now - traffic has increased dramatically everywhere over the last few years.

"I have referred this to Wrexham [Council] to have a look at the signage and see if improved signage might improve the situation."

Cllr Lowe said she feels it is a minority of drivers who "spoil things" for others, adding: "Sometimes people are in such a rush and that's what causes that kind of driving.

"My message would just be to be considerate to others.

"We're all road users and hopefully we can make it a more pleasant experience."

The Leader approached North Wales Police and Wrexham Council for a comment.
