A WREXHAM grandfather remains stranded in a Benidorm hospital, after falling ill while on holiday.

Grandfather of six Keith Arrowsmith, 58, flew out to the Spanish resort on Christmas Day, and was due to fly back on January 8 but took ill on January 6 and at one stage the family were told to "prepare for the worst".

His daughter Donna Arrowsmith says a paperwork "mix up" meant his insurance company will not pay the £15,000 to £25,000 needed to bring him back to the UK and set up a crowdfunding page last week in an attempt the raise the necessary funds herself.

The page has raised just under £1000 so far and Donna said her Dad was now taking anti-depressant medication because he's really fed up at being stuck in a Spanish hospital.

She said: "It's been over six weeks now and there hasn't really been much change in his condition, other than he's feeling really depressed.

"He has four daughters, a son and six grandchildren who all desperately want him home.

"The grandchildren are getting upset because they can't see him and he is getting depressed because he can't see them."

Mr Arrowsmith spent nearly four weeks in a coma after a serious lung infection led to low oxygen levels and carbon dioxide in his blood and he remains on a ventilator in the intensive care unit.
