A FUNDRAISING campaign to help bring an ill Caia Park grandfather home from Benidorm is gathering momentum.

Grandfather of six, Keith Arrowsmith, of Allington Drive, Caia Park is in hospital in Spain having fallen ill with a lung infection while on holiday.

Mr Arrowsmith, 58, flew out on Christmas Day, and was due to fly back on January 8 but took ill on January 6 and at one stage the family were told to "prepare for the worst".

Daughter Donna Arrowsmith says a paperwork "mix up" means his insurance company will not pay the £15,000 to £25,000 needed to bring him with a medic, an oxygen ventilator and other special equipment.

As he is not a Spanish citizen, the Spanish Government will not continue his treatment for much longer.

A Go Fund Me Page was set up by his daughter Ms Arrowsmith on Tuesday night and in just over a day hundreds of pounds had already been raised towards the effort with the total so far reaching £730.

Meanwhile readers have taken to the Leader's Facebook page to have their say on Mr Arrowsmith's predicament and give their support.

Louise Haggarty said: "I feel sorry for his kids, their are over here worried and upset that their cant go and see their dad. Lets hope people donate to help bring him home."

Jayne Parsons added: " If you don't declare certain stuff they will not pay out some of these companies. Heartbreaking for the family."

Speaking to the Leader about why the Go Fund Me page has been set up, Mr Arrowsmith's daughter Donna said: ""He has four daughters, a son and six grandchildren who all desperately want him home.

"The grandchildren are getting upset because they can't see him and he is getting depressed because he can't see them."
