A DAUGHTER has made a desperate plea for help in bringing her ill father home from Benidorm.

Grandfather of six, Keith Arrowsmith, of Allington Drive, Caia Park is in hospital in Spain having fallen ill with a lung infection while on holiday.

Mr Arrowsmith, 58, flew out on Christmas Day, and was due to fly back on January 8 but took ill on January 6 and at one stage the family were told to "prepare for the worst".

Daughter Donna Arrowsmith says a paperwork "mix up" means his insurance company will not pay the £15,000 to £25,000 needed to bring him with a medic, an oxygen ventilator and other special equipment.

As he is not a Spanish citizen, the Spanish Government will not continue his treatment for much longer.

Ms Arrowsmith said: "He was placed in an induced coma in intensive care and we were all told to prepare for the worst.

"He fell ill on January 6 but got worse on January 7, and after calling the doctor the ambulance was called and he placed in the coma.

"Another 24 hours and he might not have made it. He had a serious lung infection, low oxygen levels and carbon dioxide in his blood.

"He was in a coma for nearly four weeks which has led to muscle wastage and he cannot move or walk and still remains on a ventilator in his neck and still in the intensive care unit.

"Due to a slight mistake with insurance they have refused to pay out and doctors have said to get the ball rolling to try and get him home, but he needs to be flown with a medic as still on a ventilator and need to be transferred to a hospital back home."

She added: "We started the campaign on Tuesday night.

"He has four daughters, a son and six grandchildren who all desperately want him home.

"The grandchildren are getting upset because they can't see him and he is getting depressed because he can't see them."
