WREXHAM AFC topped the USA's Twitter trending topics section at one point during their memorable FA Cup night on Sunday (January 29).

The Reds drew 3-3 with Championship club Sheffield United in a thrilling contest at the Racecourse.

The match was broadcast on BBC in the UK, as well as on ESPN stateside, where it clearly proved to be a hit among American fans.

The takeover of Wrexham AFC by actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElehenney, coupled with the Welcome to Wrexham documentary, have certainly worked wonders to boost the club's reputation around the world.

They have helped draw in new supporters and that has also led to shirt sales passing the 24,000 mark for the season so far.

And the club's ever-increasing popularity was on display once more on Sunday evening as 'Wrexham' was the number one trending topic on Twitter over in the USA.

That saw the club briefly ranking above the hugely-popular NFL Championship games.

Wrexham co-chairman Ryan Reynolds was at the Racecourse to witness the action unfold v Sheffield United.

Meanwhile, fellow co-owner of the club Rob McElhenney was cheering the Reds on from the parking lot of the Philadelphia Eagles Lincoln Financial Field stadium. 

That was ahead of their NFC Championship clash with the San Francisco 49ers, which the Eagles won 31-7.

Wrexham will now face a replay against Sheffield United for a place in the fifth round of the FA Cup - where a home tie against Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur awaits the winner.
