The cost-of-living-crisis has undoubtably changed how and where people spend their money.

Consequently, it is understandable whilst funds are tighter than ever before, the idea of shopping for new outfits is just not at the forefront of people’s thinking.

With this in mind, my colleague, Emily and myself set ourselves a challenge, to head into some of Wrexham city centre’s many charity shops and try to pull together an outfit which we would wear for as cheap as possible to prove that retail therapy perhaps doesn’t have to be extortionate.

I wanted to find an outfit which would genuinely compliment my style which is a lot of loose-fitting sports-wear type of clothing, which is both comfortable and lightweight, whereas my colleague, Emily was keen to find something more akin to business wear which could be worn in the office.

To my amazement, I managed to pick up an entire outfit for less than £10. Here are the items I bought on the cheap and where I got them from.

T-Shirt

River Island slim fit grey top

£2.00

Mencap

This grey light-feel t-shirt was too good to not purchase for just £2 from the Mencap charity shop, which is located on Queen Street. It got me off to a great start with one third of an outfit complete, it was time to find myself some shorts and finally some shoes to complete my cheap clothes shopping haul.

Shorts

Workout shorts black

£2.50

Nightingale House Hospice

Prior to heading into town, these were the exact type of shorts I was hoping to find, similar shorts to these have cost upwards of £30 in some giant retailers, so to find these lightweight workout shorts perfect for the gym, running, or lounging around in was an absolute steal for just £2.50 from Nightingale House Hospice located on Regent Street.

Shoes

Black and white HUB trainers

£5.00

Sense

I couldn’t walk around barefoot, and considering I’d currently spent less than a fiver, I was prepared to push the boat out a little bit further and see if I could find myself a pair of shoes I wouldn’t mind wearing.

I called in at Sense charity shop on Hope Street and was able to find these smart black and white shoes which are really comfortable and can also be worn with other casual looks such as jeans as well as shorts as pictured.

Overall, I was really surprised at how easy it was to pull together an outfit which I would wear for under ten pounds with a total of £9.50. Emily’s total came in at £15.99, but we both agreed that what we purchased, you would never have guessed were bought in a local charity shop.

I think the hidden bargains in Wrexham’s charity shops can go under the radar a little, so I would encourage anyone to pay a visit if they’re looking to invest in a new outfit for a great price whilst also giving to a good cause.
