Vinted users are being warned about the packaging methods they shouldn’t use when sending parcels to buyers.
The online selling site is popular with Brits who are having a clear-out, with items such as books, clothes, toys and home accessories among those being sold and bought by customers.
It’s not unusual for Vinted sellers to reuse packaging, but an expert is warning that sellers should avoid making these six common packaging mistakes.

James Gwynne, managing director at ITP Packaging, warns users to avoid sending items in packaging that is too big.
He said: “Try to pick packaging that’s a decent fit for what you’re sending.”
Adding: “If there’s loads of empty space, the item can get thrown around inside the parcel during delivery, which makes damage more likely.
“A snug fit helps keep everything where it should be.”
Don’t forget about the rain and other wet weather conditions, especially if you’re posting clothes, warns Gwynne.
“A simple waterproof layer can give your items some extra protection,” says the expert.
“Putting clothing or other moisture-sensitive items inside a sealed bag before adding the outer packaging can help keep them dry if the parcel gets wet.”
While recycling old packaging is the right thing to do where possible, Gwynne says you should try to avoid using anything that’s no longer fit for purpose.
“If the packaging is already ripped, crushed or the seams are starting to come apart, it’s probably best to use something else,” says Gwynne.
The items you should collect to make the most money
“Parcels can get moved around quite a bit during delivery, so your packaging needs to be strong enough to keep everything safely inside.”
Vinted sellers should make sure the parcel is securely fastened, but parcels shouldn’t be “unnecessarily difficult to open.”
Presentation matters when it comes to packaging a parcel, Gwynne adds.
He said: “Buyers notice when you’ve taken a bit of care with their order.
“Even when you’re selling something second-hand, clean and secure packaging can make the whole experience feel much better and shows the buyer you’ve made an effort.”
Finally, he says sellers don’t need to overcomplicate the packaging when selling items on Vinted: “Packaging doesn’t need to be complicated or expensive.
“Just make sure you’re using the right-sized packaging, the item is well protected and everything is properly sealed before it goes off.
“A few simple checks can make all the difference and help make sure your buyer gets their order in the same condition you sent it.”
What are the packaging rules on Vinted?
Vinted has outlined its packaging rules on its website, with all users encouraged to follow them.
The online selling site advises customers to “use sturdy outer packaging that snugly fits the item” and to “fill the empty space inside.”
Sellers will also need to use strong tape and make sure the shipping label is flat on the parcel with all the barcodes visible.

It’s worth noting that all old labels will need to be removed if you are reusing packaging.
