THE COST of parking at Wrexham University on a Wrexham AFC matchday is set to rise next season.

The university has confirmed that Big Parking - the company who currently work with them to manage matchday parking - have announced an increase.

The standard rate from next season will be £8 per game if booked in as a season ticket and £10 per game as an ad-hoc booking, that is if capacity is available.

Previously, the cost of parking at the site on a matchday was as little as £5 per vehicle.

The university says that concession rates for Blue Badge Holders will be available shortly.

They added that the offer of parking for next season focuses on 'incentivised reduction' for pre booking a season ticket.

A spokesperson for Wrexham University said: “As a result of the great success Wrexham AFC is experiencing and rapid growth in stadium capacity, the University campus is under increased pressure on match days.

"We have always had a strong relationship with our neighbours at the club and do our utmost to support the club and those fans, who benefit from parking in close proximity to the stadium."

They added: "We are pleased to provide this parking, which is a premium location due to the immediate adjacency of the stadium and our campus, and as such, requires sufficient management and control on busy match days to ensure an efficient service, and this does come at a cost.

“We continue to invest this in our campus to keep this offer available, focusing on supporting those with accessible needs, where we can. In order to manage the increased demands, in recent years we have invested in extensive lighting improvements, improved CCTV systems, railings to deter parking on grassed areas, and increased the number of accessible parking bays.

“Whilst continuing this commitment, the University also has to consider its own business activities that continue to operate during match days as both the Sports Centre and the Edward Llwyd Centre Library remain open for our students and public access.

In the 2024/25 season Wrexham AFC will play in EFL League One following back-to-back promotions from the National League and EFL League Two respectively.
