A TRAIL of eye-catching bikes will go on display at a Wrexham event to be held this summer.

Cycling 4 All, the charity who deliver the all ability cycling service at Alyn Waters country park, are to host a “Pedal Power Parade” there during Bike Week 2024 (June 10 – 16).

Thanks to funding from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, the Pedal Power Parade will showcase a trail of decorated bikes around the park, all decorated by local community groups, charity’s, schools, and businesses.

The aim of the parade is to bring the local community together and to get them walking or cycling while they discover all the transformed bikes - all in aid of their wellbeing and while also promoting environmental sustainability and sustainable transport.

The event will be a perfect opportunity to get outdoors and get active.

Cycling 4 All will be working with partner charities Refurbs and Groundwork North Wales to access bikes that have been unable to be refurbished for reuse to be used for the parade reducing waste sent to landfill.

TOP STORIES TODAY

Hanna Clarke, Project Lead for the Pedal Power Parade said: “We are looking forward to the local community getting creative and decorating a bike that would have otherwise ended up in landfill.

"The Pedal Power Parade will provide an exciting opportunity to promote the need for reuse and sustainability in our community, a chance for the community to celebrate and support creativity, getting outdoors and getting active”.

Local community groups, charities, schools, and businesses are all invited to decorate a bike however they wish whilst incorporating the message of reuse and sustainability.

It is free of charge to get involved and decorate a bike; businesses that want to get involved can make a charitable donation to Pedal Power if they wish.

As well as getting community groups, charities, schools, and businesses to decorate bikes, several community workshops will be available where people can drop in and help decorate bikes for the parade.

These will be at:

  • Ty Pawb Family Art Club - Saturday 18 May, 10am to 12pm
  • Alyn Waters Country Park - Tuesday 28 May, 11am to 2pm
  • Alyn Waters Country Park - Thursday 30 May, 11am to 2pm
