WHEN A customer using a mobility scooter was unable to access a Wrexham bakery, the owner decided to make a vital change to his business.

'Moonbakes' bakery launched in Cefn Mawr, Wrexham, just last month after chef and owner Jason Rogers followed his passion and made his business dream come true.

Customers have highly praised Jason's delicious baked-goods and unique menu making its grand opening a huge success in the community.

Yet, when a customer approached the venue on Crane Street using a mobility scooter last week and was unable to go inside, Jason knew something had to be done.

Just one week later, he has now installed a ramp improving the buildings accessibility for everyone.

He said: "I think it's important that everyone has access to everything. Not just ramps, I noticed a lady in a wheelchair couldn't get into my shop, she had her daughter to come in on her behalf but to see the lady missing out on warmth and a friendly chat, that really hit home.

"I want to be able to offer something for everybody. A ramp is just a small part."

After leaving his full-time career as a chef for over 25-years and venturing into the wedding photography industry, Jason soon realised his true passion will always be food and baking.

Relocating to the Cefn community, Jason discovered a gap in the market for a homely and friendly business that serves delicious bakes with a twist.

He continues: "In regards to my menu, gluten free is something I want to always offer, as its close to my heart. I also like to offer something for vegans, be it different milks for hot drinks and cake when I can.

"Everybody is welcome at Moonbakes regardless of their background, health, sexuality.

"I want it to be a safe and inclusive space and all businesses should at very least offer a ramp for accessibility."

Jason says he is keen to continue improving Moonbakes with the goal to eventually be able to seat people outside in the warmer months.
