LOTTERY funding and a community effort has led to a Flintshire bowling club being able to re-open next month after several years of closure and uncertainty.

Bagillt Bowling Club first launched in 1989 and was once a very popular part of the community.

In 2017, there were fears that the Highfield Road club could be lost forever due to both the ill health and old age of its then-members.

But now, following years of being closed, bowlers are set to return to the green once more as the venue re-opens next month.

Residents are invited to pop along to the grand re-opening between midday and 4pm on Saturday, April 6.

Bowlers and non-bowlers can attend the open day, as well as dogs.

Hot and cold food will be on offer and the bar will also be open, with raffles and tombola to be held on the day.

The re-opening has been made possible through fundraising and an undisclosed amount of funding from the National Lottery.

A spokesperson for Bagillt Bowling Club said: "During the last 18 months, and after many attempts of applying for grants and being refused, we were recently finally offered the funding.

"This has enabled us to carry out much needed repairs, such as having the bowling green resurfaced and regular maintenance, renew the benches, paint the pavilion and renew the damaged groundwork.

"We would like to thank everyone for there support and help in making this open day possible, especially the community of Bagillt who came together every month at the local pub - the Stag Inn - to hold quiz nights and raise much-needed funds."

Once open, the bowling green will also be available to hire.
