THE OWNER of a popular Wrexham takeaway venue says he was 'overwhelmed' to see how many people turned up to an eating competition there.

Chip-O-Dee, based on Borras Road, has become a hit in the area since it first opened around three years ago.

So much so, that it expanded its empire by opening a second shop in Caergwrle just last year.

On Saturday (March 16), the Borras Road venue played host to a British Eating League competition.

Hungry participants faced the challenge of completing the 'Kebab Box Eating Contest' for a chance to win a top prize of £180.

After competitors had chowed down on some of the best doner in town, it was Max Stanford (Aka Max vs Food) who took the top prize.

The shop itself was packed too as people turned up in great numbers to watch the food lovers battle it out.

Among the crowd was Craig Harker (aka Dad Loves Food) who gave Chip-O-Dee a rave review to his thousands of YouTube subscribers last year, adding that it 'reminded him of Istanbul'.

Speaking after the event, Chip-O-Dee owner Haci Deniz said: "Sorry to all my customers if your order was late, we were overwhelmed with the amount of people who came to the shop for the BEL event.

"Well done Max vs Food on winning!!"

Winner Max vs Food said: "Thank you so much for having us down! Fantastic kebabs and what a great event!"

You can watch the competitors go for glory via a video from Chip-O-Dee's Facebook page below:

Max vs Food was crowned the champion at Chip-O-Dee when he finished the kebab box in an impressive time of just six minutes and 37 seconds.

Food and the Beast finished in second place, with Tunnyvsfood finishing third, each taking £70 and £50 prizes home respectively.

Chip-O-Dee, is run by Haci Deniz - who is originally from Ankara in Turkey - and his team.

In 2022, it was crowned Wrexham's best kebab shop in Wrexham Eats' Kebab Shop Tournament, beating 15 other businesses to the prize.

The venue offers a range of takeaway options from the traditional fish and chips to pizzas and kebabs and also desserts.
