LEADER readers have had their say on which roads need a speed limit reassessment.

We reported last week how Flintshire Council confirmed hundreds of applications have been submitted to revert the speed limit back to 30 in roads affected by last year's blanket 20mph rollout.

Readers took to the Leader's Facebook page to have their say on which roads across Wrexham and Flintshire they would like to see returned to their original limits.

Many people shared the view of Sue Bidwell, who said: "All of them that were previously 30."

Jackie Hill said: "In my opinion, all this has done is make pedestrians more careless.

"They just step out now without a care in the world!"

Mark Rowley said: "Everyone is in agreement that all areas around specific public buildings like schools, care homes, hospitals and community services should be 20 mph if not 15 mph!

"[It's] common sense. There are so many roads I've driven on should be 40, never mind 30.

"Like Denbigh Road from Lidl or the road towards Flint - why on earth they made them 20 is a mystery."

Ellen Coppell said: "All main roads leading in to Wrexham Town centre. Keep school and hospital at 20."

El Phillips commented: "Chester Road from Gresford through to Grove Road.

"And all main A roads and keep all roads leading off the A roads 20, [for] example Smithy Lane, Box Lane etc."

Tina Jones said: "I don't drive but think it is ridiculous.

"It was fine before - have 20 by schools and houses etc but a 30 becoming a 20 [is] pure madness. Lorries are not meant to travel at that speed."

Shaun Goodlet said: "Only need them near schools.

"Why do people keep saying 20 by hospitals?

"Surely all the patients are in beds and visitors park in car park and go inside to visit not run around on the roads?"

Jack Richards said: "The majority of people want this ludicrous 20mph reverted back to 30mph."

In our report last week Anthony Stanford, Transport Manager at Flintshire Council, set out the process the authority will follow to assess the hundreds of applications it has received.

He said: “In November, the council launched a 20mph exceptions application process to allow members of the public to put forward roads for consideration, which in their opinion, could be exceptions and potentially revert back to 30mph.

"So far we have received over 300 applications and this number continues to grow.

"Due to the volume of applications and limited resources, this process will take some time to complete as each application must be assessed in accordance with Welsh Government’s exceptions criteria.

"To help officers manage the demand, applications will be prioritised by A and B classified roads initially, followed by C and U classified roads.”
