A PLANNING application has been submitted to extend a Gypsy and Traveller site in Flintshire.

Plans have been lodged with Flintshire Council to extend the Huntleys Yard site, located on Chester Road in Flint.

The proposal is for a further 10 pitches on land adjacent to the existing Traveller site, with each comprising one static home.

The application is also proposing the building of a day room, the provision of two parking spaces, a bin storage area and a 1.8metre-high boundary fence.

Two existing Gypsy and Traveller sites (Huntleys Yard and The Coach Yard) are located to the west of the proposed site.

Foul drainage for the proposed site extension would be taken via a link to the existing main sewer that runs through the Huntleys Yard site.

A planning statement on behalf of the applicant said: "We can find no evidence that would reasonably show how Flintshire Council have met their statutory responsibilities to plan properly and provide suitable sites for the Gypsy and Traveller community.

"This approach is having a detrimental effect on adults and children from the Gypsy and Traveller community and has ultimately forced unauthorised developments to take place in Flintshire. Whilst this is not one of those sites, we believe that it is imperative that the Local Planning Authority positively considers this application in a reasonable and timely manner."

Flintshire Council hopes to make a decision on the application by April 11.
