A COUNCILLOR in Wrexham is leading a mass clean up of a "dumping ground" in his ward.

Cllr Marc Jones of Grosvenor Ward in Wrexham is set to clear a site in Rhosddu that has been plagued with issues of abandoned rubbish for years.

An alley behind Rhosddu Road has been subject to fly-tipping for some time, with several waste bags and items littered on the road alongside an abandoned vehicle.

Cllr Jones said that concerns had been raised on numerous occasions by residents in the area.

The road is classed as private land by Wrexham Council, meaning the onus is on residents to clean it up, which is exactly what they are set to do.

Cllr Jones and some local residents will be clearing the road tomorrow (February 6) and are welcoming anyone down who wishes to help.

Cllr Jones added: "About 10 days ago I was contacted by a local resident about the flytipping and van, which appeared to have been abandoned in the alleyway behind Rhosddu Road in my ward.

"I've contacted the council regarding both and I'm expecting action to be taken to move the van.

"It's been a problem area for flytipping over the years and I have huge sympathy with the businesses and local residents affected by the mess.

"The alleyway is classified as private land and the council will therefore not clear that site so local residents and I will be clearing the mess up tomorrow afternoon (Tuesday) at 2.30pm.

"Anyone wanting to help is welcome to attend - I'll bring bags and litter pickers but please bring your own gloves."
