A FAMILY from Wrexham is holding a fundraising event in support of a young father with stage four cancer.

In October, the Leader reported on the fundraising efforts of Alice Myatt and Heather Thwaites, who were looking to raise money for their brother-in-law Kieron Harrop.

37-year-old Kieron, was given a 'devastating' diagnosis of Stage 4 Melanoma, which is considered terminal.

Due to the advanced nature of Kieron's cancer, Alice and Heather began fundraising in an attempt to secure their brother-in-law with rare treatments, that aren't yet available on the NHS.

A GoFundMe page was set up with a target of £35,000, with half of that target raised so far (£17,500).

Before Christmas, Alice, her fiance Luke Bebbington and her dad, Alan Myatt, walked 10 peaks in 10 weeks to raise funds.

The hope amongst the family, who hail from Wrexham, is that Kieron will be treated at a clinic in Germany using Dendritic cell therapy (DCT) which will prolong his life.

Due to a previous illness, Kieron is currently unable to receive immunotherapy and is facing a waiting game before hopefully starting treatment in Germany.

In a bid to boost the fundraising total, Alice and Heather have organised an event at Brymbo Cricket Club early next month.

The event, which will take place on February 3 from 7.30pm until 12am, will have live music from local Wrexham band, The Cover Lovers as well as a raffle with a number of prizes.

It is open to all and the price of tickets is £10, which includes a raffle ticket for the prize draw, with the family currently trying to encourage raffle prize donations.

After what has been a difficult period for Kieron, Megan and their three-year-old Logan, Heather says it's been 'amazing' to see the community rally together in support.

She added: "We're really grateful for all the support we've had so far. It's pulled us all together as a family, but not only that it's friends and people in the community doing all they can to help us too.

"The evening on the 3rd is hopefully a night to bring people together for Kieron, to try and lift his spirits and keep his morale up. In turn, if we can get closer to that target then that will be great.

"We're at the stage now where we're just waiting for the money to pay the clinic in Germany. We know it's incurable, we're just trying to prolong his life so he can spend as much time as he can with Logan."
