PLANS for a retail and leisure hub in the centre of Wrexham for the Chapter Court development have been submitted to the council.

A planning application for the change of use to “mixed use” has been lodged.

The aim is to create ‘Micro Retail’ and ‘Micro Food Vendor’ areas within existing, unused, commercial properties, through “unlocking” a rear courtyard area along Hope Street, Queen Street, Argyle Street and Rhosddu Road, according to the design and access statement prepared by CAUKIN Studio Ltd.

The development, by TBE (Southern) Limited,  aims to attract smaller, independent, local businesses and create a ‘go-to’ place to eat and drink through the rear courtyard space.

The design and access statement said: “Developing the currently under-utilised and somewhat forgotten part of the site will maximise the potential of this area, whilst respecting the local vernacular and street scene. Re-utilising the site as outlined in the UDP (Unitary Development Plan) and producing a good mix of high quality units for a range of potential users.”

The proposed site is a service yard which is currently used for access and deliveries.

It added: “The Chapter Court buildings (permission granted for development in Autumn 2022) and external courtyard, are located within Wrexham town centre with access from multiple existing transport links, making it a prime destination for local people and visitors.”
