STREETS of Wrexham are set to glow with a sea of lanterns in support of Nightingale House Hospice.

In conjunction with Wrexham County Borough Council's Christmas lights switch-on, families are set to parade with lanterns along a one-mile route in a beautiful spectacle to raise money for patient care at the hospice.

The sponsored parade will take place on Sunday, November 18, at 4pm following festive carol singing, starting in Queens Square and continuing along a pedestrian route around Llwyn Isaf, through Wrexham city centre, ending at Eagles Meadow.

Event and campaigns manager at Nightingale House Hospice, Elise Jackson, said: "Working with Wrexham Council and Eagles Meadow, we are thrilled to be part of the Wrexham city centre lights switch-on. The Wrexham lantern parade provides an opportunity for children and families to support their local hospice by raising sponsorship to fund the patient care and family support services that Nightingale House offers."

Elise added: "The parade will work perfectly to bridge the events happening in the daytime on Queens Square and Eagles Meadow in the evening. With hundreds of children lighting up our city streets with the Christmas lights being switched on as we pass through each street, creating a truly magical spectacle! We hope the parade will be an occasion for children to remember for years to come."

Every registered child participating in the sponsored parade will receive a paper lantern to decorate and a battery tea light. These can be collected from the Useful Art Space at Ty Pawb on Saturday 11th November (1pm – 3pm), and children can engage in Lantern-Making Workshops facilitated by local artist Ellie Ashby. Alternatively, lanterns can be picked up on the day of the event at Queen's Square on Saturday, November 18th (11am – 4pm).

Lead Member for City Centre and Events, Cllr Nigel Williams, said: "I would like to thank Nightingale House Hospice for working with us as one of our main partners for this year's Christmas light switch-on. The lantern parade will be a spectacle that allows members of the public to take an active part in making a lantern and then taking part in the parade.
