A WREXHAM resident has vowed to never park in Island Green again after being slapped with a hefty parking fine.

The resident, who wished to remain anonymous, was handed a £100 parking fine after using the EuroParks car park at Island Green earlier this month.

After parking at the site for just over 50 minutes and still having over an hour left on the eligible parking ticket, the resident has been told to pay up, much to their disappointment.

The car park, which has had several complaints from residents in the past year, continues to hand out fines despite the best efforts of local Members of the Senedd.

Lesley Griffiths and Ken Skates have both been very vocal about their concerns at the EuroPark site and issues are continuing to occur.

The resident, who has the parking ticket from the day of the accused charge, has voiced their concerns over the fine.

They said: "I had the letter through from the parking company but there is no one to talk to over the phone, they only wanted to take my payment.

"Thankfully I kept the ticket I bought, which shows I did pay to park there, but to be charged £100 is crazy, it's so steep. I've heard from other residents that if you don't pay then bailiffs are sent round.

"I don't understand why I've had this all of a sudden, I've regularly used that car park without any issues but I definitely won't be going back there, that's for sure.

"I went in just after 10am and paid until 1pm, but left shortly before 11am as I only went to the bank. So why have they fined me £100? It's just terrible really."

Recently, Wrexham's MS Lesley Griffiths spoke on the issues faced by the car park at Island Green.

She said: "Euro Car Parks (ECP) is a private company responsible for the daily running of the car park at Island Green Shopping Centre in Wrexham city centre.

"The car park has had a negative reputation for a considerable period but major problems first occurred in 2019 after ANPR cameras were first installed.

"Dozens of constituents and non-constituents have informed they avoid Island Green Shopping Centre altogether because of the parking problems. High streets are suffering as it is so creating further barriers that put people off shopping is nonsensical.

"Despite the actions we have taken and the avenues we have exhausted, the problems at Island Green remain.

"I am certain Wrexham isn't the only city or town which suffers from the unscrupulous practices of private car park firms. They wilfully ignore their customers and I believe tightening the legislation and implementing greater regulation around these unprincipled companies is a cause worth pursuing."

EuroParks has been approached for comment.
