FORMER workers at a collapsed Deeside engineering company are set to receive cash payouts after being dismissed without consultation.

Ex-staff at DRB Group Ltd have won their legal battle after they were dismissed without proper consultation when the firm went into administration in January 2023.

Their case was taken up by legal specialists Aaron & Partners Llp and Slater & Gordon (UK) Ltd who secured a protective award for the workers after an employment tribunal accepted DRB Group Ltd failed to consult on the redundancies as it went into administration.

The case was heard in Cardiff on October 6. In making his decision, Employment Judge S Jenkins awarded the maximum 90 days compensation reflecting DRB GROUP's complete failure, and without mitigating circumstances, to comply with section 188 under section 189 of the Trade Union and Labour Relations (Consolidation) Act 1992.

The total compensation amounted to £532,493.10, so each worker will now receive up to £4,568 paid for by the Redundancy Payments Service given the company’s insolvency.

The family-run firm had been in business since 1976 and grew to become one of the leading privately-owned engineering companies in the region employing almost 200 skilled staff at its peak.
