WREXHAM'S two teenage blacksmiths have recreated the iconic Gresford Colliery wheel ahead of the anniversary of the disaster at the pit.

Ollie and Harvey Roberts, known as Britain's youngest blacksmiths, have designed a miniature version of the wheel to go on display at Gresford Colliery Sports & Social Club.

Tomorrow (Friday, September 22)  marks the 89th anniversary of the Gresford Colliery disaster - whereby 266 miners tragically lost their lives in an explosion.

In 1982, a memorial to the victims of the disaster was created using a wheel from the old pit-head winding gear.

Ollie and Harvey made national headlines after starting their own blacksmiths' business during the first Covid lockdown in 2020 when aged just 12 and 13.

They said they are "very proud" of their latest creation - and Gresford Colliery Sports & Social Club said it is "over the moon" with the design.

And the boys, now aged 15, are attending the memorial service at the wheel on Friday morning, as well as the live music event that evening involving a performance from Declan Swans at the Colliery Club.

After a photo of the boys' design was shared on the O & H Metalwork page, people commented praising them for their work - describing it as "wonderful" and "amazing".
