THE MANAGERS of a Wrexham-based Portuguese restaurant have reacted to the glowing review by a well-known food critic.

When Jay Rayner visited Wrexham's Lisbon Tapas Restaurant earlier this month, his complimentary review received a lot of attention.

Jay described the seafood served at the Portuguese tapas bar as fantastic, with the clams just "waiting to be sucked off the shell."

The glowing review, which was written for The Guardian, was read far and wide, once again, putting Wrexham on the map.

José Simões, business director and head chef, was delighted with the praise they received.

He said: "We were extremely pleased that one of the most prestigious food critics in the UK chose Lisbon Tapas Restaurant to experience a little bit of what we do and what we have to offer.

"I am very proud of the whole team."

David Bartolomeu, restaurant manager, said: "Of course in terms of visibility it’s good for us and business has increased slightly during the week period but due to the restaurant only sitting 40 people, the weekends remain busy as normal as we simply cannot sit any more guests.

"This hopefully will change when our plans for expansion are approved.

"Our local regulars and loyal customers have been delighted with the news and many have congratulated us for this achievement.”

Jay described the restaurant as being "genuinely pleased to see you" while complimenting its staff, service, and of course, its quality of food.

The restaurant has also shared reviews from the local community after a flood of new guests visited last week after the publication of Jay's review.

On the website, Nigel Smith said: "First visit and will certainly be back. Quality of food and service was superb."

While another customer said: "We had an excellent meal, can't wait to come back again."
