KINGS of Leon's manager hopes that the band's Bank Holiday gigs at the Racecourse can lead to other big names performing in Wrexham.

The American rock legends were joined by local band Declan Swans and former Stereophonics man Kelly Jones' new group Far From Saints for two nights to remember.

Over 30,000 people attended over the two shows on May 27 and 28 which proved to be a huge success.

North Wales fans rocked out to 'Sex on Fire', 'Use Somebody', 'Knocked Up' and so much more as they got a chance to enjoy the rarest of shows right on their doorstep.

But, Kings of Leon manager Andy Mendelsohn hopes that these gigs can be a stepping stone for other big bands to follow on into north Wales in the near future.

Speaking to Spin Magazine, he said: "The hope is that other big bands see what’s going on in Wrexham and say, wow, we should play there too."

Mr Mendelsohn, who also oversees the touring version of Rob McElhenney's beloved The Always Sunny Podcast, added: "It doesn’t take away from playing in London or any other big city, and Wrexham being able to have a concert season in the football off-season means more tourism and more business for the town.

"This was all a lot of wishful thinking for a long time, and now everything has come to pass.”

Kings of Leon were formed in 1999 and the band is made up of brothers Caleb, Nathan and Jared Followill, and their cousin Matthew Followill.

Following the Wrexham dates, the band has gone on to play three additional shows in Germany.
