WREXHAM AFC have been praised by royalty after winning promotion back to the Football League.

Prince William tweeted after the Reds beat Boreham Wood 3-1 to secure the National League title and a return to the EFL after a 15-year hiatus.

The Prince of Wales said: "Congratulations @Wrexham_AFC! A club with such amazing history, looking forward to a very exciting future back in the Football League. Doing Wales proud, W."

A second half brace from super Paul Mullin was enough to secure the win for the Reds after Elliot Lee had earlier cancelled out Boreham Wood's first-minute opener.

People partied long into the night in Wrexham city centre in scenes not witnessed there for decades.

The club still has one more game left to play, where they find themselves away in Devon at Torquay United.

They then head off for a pre-season tour of the United States - where they will play friendlies against Chelsea and Manchester United.
