WREXHAM AFC'S star man Paul Mullin has praised the club’s ‘down to earth’ Hollywood owners, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

The striker has hailed the impact they've had not just on the club, but on the city as well.

The former Liverpool and Everton youth product has scored 55 goals since signing from Cambridge United in 2021, and has been Wrexham's talisman.

Speaking to talkSPORT.com, Mullin said: “I think both Rob and Ryan are really good at making everyone feel comfortable, that’s one of their strengths. The way they were perceived in the world – which they are in their own right – as big A-list superstars, but for us they’re just normal people.

“They are great owners and they do keep in touch and have very open conversations, if you want to speak to them you can, they’re always there to give you a helping hand and sometimes they’ll check up on you and how the family’s doing which is fantastic.”

Mullin described the moment Ryan Reynolds, with over 47million followers on Instagram, followed him on social media as being "surreal".

The 28-year-old explained: "But you sort of get used to it, you take it in your stride when these things happen. At first when Ryan first added me on Instagram and Rob’s Tweeting me and things, it’s sort of like ‘what’s going on here? My followers are blowing up!’

“It’s sort of become quite normalised now and they are just normal people, they’re just really down to earth and for us that helps a lot as a set of lads we’re the same.”

Mullin is now a star in his own right, squaring up to Reynolds in an acting scene in a club advert.

The Leader:

“I didn’t know I was doing it until I came in in the morning and then Ryan’s came over and told us what he was over for,” he said.

“He planned it and he wrote all of the script himself so when he asked me to do that part it was quite daunting because I hadn’t done it before, but surprisingly it didn’t actually need that many takes from my end.

“It was just one of those things I managed to get my head round and there were a couple of giggles here and there but I didn’t mind doing it, it was quite enjoyable, it’s not often you get to see a Hollywood superstar do their acting in front of you and to be part of it was great.”

But it’s not just the club that’s feeling the difference, it’s the city too.

“I can only say from when I signed for the club but since I got here it’s been nothing but the owners trying to help the community and the club progress to the next stage,” Mullin said.

“The stuff they do for the food banks and the surrounding areas, the attention they’ve brought to Wrexham, they’ve got people coming to support from afar.

“They come to watch us play and there’s young kids now who want to support Wrexham, I’ve had plenty of tweets and messages about how over the past few years the young kids have been walking around in Liverpool in Manchester United and Chelsea shirts, all the top teams, kids with [Mohamed] Salah on the back.

“They’re now all proud of their Wrexham tops with Mullin on the back or [Ollie] Palmer or [Aaron] Hayden so it’s great to see and hopefully it can keep taking the community forward because they’re really committed to coming to the games, they work hard for their money but they spend it coming to watch us so we’ll try to repay them."

The Leader:

He added: “It’s good to have owners that are so accessible, that helps, I think being a lower league club allows that, but they’ve worked hard for their money, they want to progress.

“When I spoke to them when I first signed they said that they want to be remembered for years to come for giving back to the community and trying to help people out and that’s the kind of people they are, really down to earth.

The owners’ genuine nature has certainly come across to the players

“The clip on the documentary where Rob took his child back to the house where he grew up in, that’s really reflective of him as a person and it isn’t set up, they just really are normal people who are grounded and down to earth and I think his roots are really reflected by the people of Wrexham.

“They work hard for their money and really want to get behind a sports team and their own team in Wrexham and they’re committed to it. Rob and Ryan as owners are really committed to this project too and are trying to give the people of the community hope.”
