Wrexham AFC co-owner Ryan Reynolds has commended a brave young fan as he embarks on his chemotherapy treatment wearing his Wrexham shirt with pride.

Six-year-old Leland, from Gateshead, Newcastle, was sadly diagnosed with pre-Leukemia in September of last year.

His plight to find a stem cell donor caught national attention after Blyth Spartans player JJ O'Donnell shared Leland's story on his Twitter page.

The player said he hoped he'd be walking out with Leland as Blyth Spartons took on Wrexham in the fourth qualifying round of the FA Cup at Croft Park, Northumberland which took place on October 18.

After tagging Wrexham AFC and the Deadpool star in the post, the next update was a message from Reds owner Ryan, who passed on a message of support.

Following this message from the Hollywood star, the number of people signing up to be donors surged.

In November, his mum Sarah, who did not wish to give her surname, announced on Twitter that a match had been found and he is due to have the transplant at some point this year.

Writing on twitter via the page 'Leland's fight' on November 17, his mum commented that: "We got the wonderful news yesterday that a MATCH has been found for Leland.

"That special match, who has given us the best Christmas gift ever imaginable. Thank you, thank you, thank you for all that registered."

The incredibly brave Leland is now starting his chemotherapy treatment, along with a new gift from Blyth Spartans player JJ O'Donnell.

The 31-year-old player visited Leland on Sunday (January 8), to gift him a shirt from 'his new favourite club', Wrexham AFC.

The baby blue shirt also contains the name 'Reynolds' on the back, a nod towards the Hollywood star.

In response to this tweet, Wrexham AFC co-owner, Ryan Reynolds tweeted his support for the Blyth Spartans player's honourable actions.

He said: "One of the more inspiring aspects of this sport is meeting players and supporters who consistently show up for people. JJODonnell23 walks the walk."

The actor then went on to wish Leland the best on his journey and commended the young boy for his astonishing bravery.
