WERE you one of the 2,520 Wrexham fans who watched Wrexham beat Oldham 2-1 away earlier this season?

If you were at the match at Boundary Park on October 1 2022, then you may now be featured on a powerful football chant at the end of a new fan-song.

'The Wrexham Way', which is now on Spotify, features a 'Wrexham FC, we're the Red Army' chant from that match at the end of the 5.54min long track.

The song is a fundraiser for Nightingale House Hospice by local band Hypenotic, in memory of their late friend, Robin Bell who died aged just 37 in 2019 from stomach cancer.

Robin’s widow Heidi said: “Robin would be urging them on with this creative effort. As a Wrexham-fan, Robin wrote the film-script for “A League Apart” before his passing, a comedy about the famous Arsenal game that has drawn the attention of stars like Celyn Jones and Ricky Tomlinson.”

Recently published on Spotify, YouTube and all good streaming services, the song has already raised £250 for the hospice, and the band hopes it will still raise more, given the thousands of Wrexham fans now actively following the club.

The song also features Nathan Salt and Rich Fay from popular football podcast 'Rob, Ryan, Red'.

Telling the tale of the highs and lows experienced by Wrexham fans in recent years, the song shares the story of “the town battling against the odds, on the pitch and off”.

There's also the feeling of being cursed for not getting promoted despite achieving 98 points, and thanking Denis Smith and the Trust for carrying the club through, “deserving the glory of this Hollywood story”.

Performing the song live for the first time at the Gaztonbury fundraiser in Rossett, Hypenotic's Will Sudworth explained: “The band were grateful to receive help and encouragement on the song from Wrexham’s Press Officer Colin Henrys and Disability Liaison Officer Kerry Evans, who arranged for the song to be played before the Scunthorpe home match. Every listen donates money to Nightingale House."

Having not played together since their Castell Alun School days and rehearsing in Caergwrle Boys’ Brigade’s hall, Ceri James (synth), Mike Pitts (lyrics and rap), Simon Rogers (drums, guitars, music production) and Will Sudworth (bass and vocals) brought the 80s-style Hypenotic band back together during the pandemic.

They’ve so far recorded 10 original songs and two covers.
