THE result was all that mattered as Wrexham came from behind to win 2-1 against Oldham Athletic and go top of the National League.
Phil Parkinson's side were poor in the first half and trailed at the break following a Ben Tozer mistake.
But after playmaker Elliot Lee was brought on after 60 minutes, there was a marked improvement from the Reds.
Wrexham were on top and Tozer made amends with a brilliant strike following Lee's lay-off and Paul Mullin converted a penalty to secure victory after Luke Young was fouled in the area deep into added time.
Now unbeaten in eight games, Wrexham hold a two point lead at the summit.
Here's how the players rated:
MARK HOWARD: Might have done better with the goal but didn’t have a lot else to do apart from that. 6
ANTHONY FORDE; Has made more inroads down the right flank. 5
AARON HAYDEN: Was Wrexham’s stand-out defender and had another good game. 7
BEN TOZER: His mistake led to Chesterfield taking the lead but made amends with well-taken equaliser. 6
MAX CLEWORTH: Solid enough, taken off when Wrexham switched to a back four on the hour mark. 6
CALLUM MCFADZEAN: Back in the side but the wing-backs have been more of an attacking threat. 5
JAMES JONES: Wrexham had a lot of possession but didn’t make it count for an hour. 5
LUKE YOUNG: The Reds kept going until the end and captain Young put his head in bravely to win last-gasp penalty. 6
JORDAN DAVIES: Was quiet and didn’t get into the game. 5
PAUL MULLIN: Handled the pressure to convert last-gasp penalty. 6
OLLIE PALMER: Worked hard for the cause but didn’t have any chances to add to tally. 6
SUBSTITUTES
ELLIIT LEE: Another brilliant cameo, came close to a goal before setting Ben Tozer up for the equaliser. 7
SAM DALBY: Was a handful when he came on and did well. 7
LIAM MCALINDEN: Another substitute who did well. 6
