WREXHAM AFC's famous owners produced a speech to remember as they picked up a 'humbling' award last night (Monday, November 14).

The football club and the city surrounding it has been on a high ever since the takeover by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney was completed in early 2021.

The pair have had such an impact on all things Welsh, that it was recently decided that they would be receiving a special award for their efforts.

Their hit Welcome to Wrexham series, which has just won a Critics Choice Award, follows the pair's football club ownership journey to date.

It also integrates the Welsh language into the telling of the story of one of the oldest football clubs in the world, including a special episode taking the history and language of the small passionate nation to a global audience.

To recognise the contribution Rob and Ryan have made putting Wales on a global platform, Welsh Government has partnered with S4C, the Football Association of Wales and Urdd to honour them with a 'Dragon Award'.

This prize was given out as part of the Wales to the World ceremony held at the New York Concert at Sony Hall, Times Square, last night.

The full-showing of the star-studded, televised event will showcase the very best of Welsh talent, culture and language and will be broadcast on S4C on November 20, the evening before Wales play the USA at the World Cup in Qatar.

Upon accepting the award last night, Rob and Ryan spoke of how the last two years since they took over Wrexham 'have been the real honour'.

Ryan adds that they are so 'humbled by the fact that the people of Wrexham and the nation of Wales have entrusted us to tell your story.'

The Deadpool star then has a go at a bit of Welsh, adding 'Cymru am byth' (Wales forever).

The Welcome to Wrexham series detailing the duo's takeover journey took the world by storm when it first aired via Disney Plus back in September.

Rob has since confirmed that a second season will air in the near future.
