New data has revealed a dramatic increase in the number of football fans following Wrexham AFC since the release of their recent docuseries.

Welcome to Wrexham, on Disney+ premiered in August and documented Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney's takeover of the club, as well as the ins and outs since.

The docuseries has recently won a critics choice award and has proved popular across the world, with interest in the Reds, continuing to grow.

Now, data from LiveScore suggests the Hollywood treatment is resonating with football fans, with 7,251 new users opting to be kept up to date with Wrexham’s games on the LiveScore app throughout the duration of Welcome to Wrexham’s release (August to October 2022).

This marks a 636% increase over the same period last year, where only 985 LiveScore users added Wrexham as a favourite team.

With Wrexham currently sitting in second place in the National League table, the data shows it’s not just on the pitch where the Hollywood-backed club is dominating.

Wrexham followers hold a 54.33% share of LiveScore users who have favourited a National League team over the last three months, way ahead of their nearest rivals Notts County (4.74%) and Chesterfield (4.57%) who came in second and third respectively.

Wrexham is also making waves outside of the National League, with the Welsh side being one of only two clubs – the other being Newcastle – to see a progressive month on month increase since the start of August in terms of LiveScore users favouriting a team.

And when comparing the National League side to clubs in the Premier League, Wrexham has added more fans since the release of Welcome to Wrexham than top-flight AFC Bournemouth, Brentford, Crystal Palace, Fulham and Nottingham Forest.

Not bad for a National League side!
