Farms across Wrexham and Flintshire have opened their fields for pumpkin picking over this spooky season. 

As Halloween approaches families across North Wales may be searching for family friendly activities.

Pumpkin-picking offers a two birds with one stone solution, a fun day out for the family at the farm and allows you to grab a pumpkin to carve at a later date. 

Here is a list of all the venues offering Pumpkin picking across Flintshire and Wrexham:

1) Swans Farm Shop:  Ffrith Farm, Corwen Road, Treuddyn, Mold, CH7 4LE. Open - Wednesday to Saturday 9am - 5pm until October 29. 

North Wales new-comers to the Pick Your Own pumpkins industry are Swans Farm Shop which is based in Treuddyn. 

In a post they shared they are "absolutely delighted to share details of our first season of PYO Pumpkins at Swans Farm Shop."

Visitors do not need to book and pumpkins picked can be paid for at the farm shop with prices starting at £2. 

Sensible footwear is recommended and dogs can be brought on a lead.

2) Bellis Brothers Farm in Holt, Wrexham -  October - 8, 9, 15, 16, 22, 23 and every day from Monday, October 24 to Monday, October 31. 

Running from 10 am to 5pm and visitors are required to book in advance. 

Visitors are also able to enter the spooky maize maze priced at £2 per entry.

No dogs are allowed on the pumpkin fields and the farm advises wearing sensible footwear. 

According to Bellis brothers: "If you look after your pumpkin it will last for weeks UNCARVED. Store them somewhere frost free with plenty of fresh air e.g. a shed, garage or outside. Once carved your pumpkin will last 3-5 days outside."

3) Hawarden Estate Farm Shop: Hawarden, Flintshire CH5 3FB.

This farm shop which is set on the grounds of the beautiful Gladstone Estate allows visitors to pick their own pumpkins which can then be purchased at the farm shop. 

The farm shop plants 3,000 pumpkins every year. 

In a post on facebook a representative said: "Autumn is here and so are our pumpkins! They've been lovingly cared for by Joel all year and they're now ready for you to pick from the pick-your-own fields behind the Farm Shop.

The farm shop is open for picking 7 days a week, during day light hours.

Despite initial concerns that the recent heatwaves would have an impact on pumpkin stocks, one of the UK’s largest growers of pumpkins has said there is “full availability” of the squash this year.

Oakley Farms, based near Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, which supplies Tesco, grows around five million pumpkins each year.

Steve Whitworth, operations director at Oakley Farms, said: “While we had the summer heatwave and subsequent downpour in early September, we’ve had no issues with our pumpkins and there is full availability of great quality this year.”

Tesco pumpkin buyer Emily Hampson said: “The quality of the pumpkins that have started arriving at our stores this week are as good as ever and we have a wide variety of choices available.

“Interest in Halloween continues to grow and last year we saw an all-time record demand for pumpkins."
