A Wrexham based cricket club has announced plans to build a new state-of-the-art pavilion with facilities for children, women's teams and disabled access.

Gwersylt Park Cricket Club has teams competing in the North Wales Cricket League, a Midweek XI that compete in the Chester and District Midweek Cricket League, as well as having a number of youth teams competing in the North East Wales Junior Cricket League.

The club is currently awaiting planning permission to begin the development of a new multi-functional pavilion.

Amy Griffiths, club manager, said: "The current facilities have been up for the past 33 years so we hope this new development will be up for even longer than that.

"The pavilion will be for everyone and really benefit the club and community in general.

"It'll make a huge difference to the children, disabled and women's visitors and players as there currently aren't specific facilities in place.

"Currently the changing rooms are not accessible and that is something we want to change."

The cricket club has already started fundraising for the project and has raised £2,000 already.

On Saturday, October 1, the club raised £345 for the project through a games night hosted by Shaun Jones, a clubhouse regular who volunteered his services.

The club also continued its fundraising spirit through a coffee morning in aid of Macmillan Cancer which raised £720.

The club is hopeful that the pavilion will be up and running by the 2024 cricket season.

However, they are aware of the huge cost this project will require.

Amy continued: "It is going to be a big build and take a lot of time and money."

The club is appealing for any grants, sponsors or fundraisers looking help - those wanting to help can contact the club via Gwersylltcricketclub@gmail.com.

Amy expressed her gratitude to those who have donated so far: "I would like to thank everyone for their support and we hope this pavilion will be a big plus for the community."
