THE Deputy Leader of the Labour party has slammed thugs who fought in an area 'where kids play' ahead of Wrexham's match at Oldham Athletic.

Angela Rayner MP expressed her 'disgust' after fights broke out on a residential street in Failsworth on Saturday afternoon (October 1).

Greater Manchester Police were called to the mass brawl, which has been captured on video.

The shocking video shows fans from both sides throwing bricks and wheelie bins, as well as punches and kicks at each other.

Ms Rayner took to social media to express her views following the incident, which she says she was 'disgusted' by.

The Labour MP for Ashton-under-Lyne, tweeted: "Disgusted to see the brawl in the streets this afternoon in Failsworth before today's match.

"This was the middle of the afternoon in a residential area where kids play. Thank you to Greater Manchester Police who were on scene to protect the public."

Wrexham went on to win 2-1 at Boundary Park to move to the top of the National League table.

The Reds had been 1-0 down but a late strike from Ben Tozer and a 95th minute penalty from Paul Mullin handed them a massive three points.

A statement from Wrexham AFC says those involved in the brawls 'do not represent our fanbase'.
