Wrexham fans look set to be affected by rail strikes ahead of a big league game next month.

On October 1, Wrexham AFC travel to Boundary Park to take on Oldham Athletic for the first time since 2004.

2,300 tickets were swallowed up by Reds fans within the first hour of being put on sale, with more tickets potentially being released pending the outcome of a Safety Advisory Group meeting.

Regardless of the outcome of the meeting, huge amounts of Reds making the trip to Oldham next month are expected to be affected by train strikes.

The National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT) were set to go on strike in September, but their planned action was postponed due to the passing of the Queen.

Instead, workers on Network Rail and 14 train operating companies will take strike action on October 1 in a row over job security, pay and working conditions.

The 24-hour action will bring the railway to an effective standstill.

Some of the companies on strike include Network Rail, Cross Country Trains, Great Western and Avanti West Coast.

While the usual club travel should be provided as normal, those making their own way there may need to work out an alternative way of travel.
