A town councillor, a young amputee and celebrity Paddy Doherty are gearing up for a potential record-breaking climb up Ben Nevis next month by tackling Snowdon this weekend.

Five-year-old Albie-Junior will become the youngest amputee to reach the Ben Nevis summit next month when he takes on the trek with his dad, Holywell Town Councillor Daniel Thomas, and Paddy.

The Ben Nevis climb is scheduled to take place at the end of October after Albie-Junior has a new blade fitted in a couple of weeks, something which in the meantime has made dad, Dan and his son desperate to get preparations underway.

Cllr Thomas said: “Albie and I got a bit bored, so I asked him if he wanted to do Snowdon on Sunday and he said yeah!

“We want to get the practice in for Ben Nevis, so I rang Paddy (Doherty) and he said he was up for it.”

Albie-Junior already holds the title of the youngest amputee to climb Snowdon at just four years of age – a feat which saw him shortlisted in the final 10 in the Amplifon Awards for Brave Britons 2022 Young Hero category.

Celebrity, Paddy Doherty will be accompanying Dan and Albie on the warm-up hike this weekend ahead of next month’s main event which will help raise money for Cancer Research in memory of his late brother Martin, who sadly passed away.

The money raised will also contribute towards Cllr Thomas’ Community Interest Company for a youth centre in Holywell which aims to reduce anti-social behaviour in the area.

Paddy said: “I’m so honoured to do this and be a part of this – I’m deeply honoured to do it with Albie-Junior and his dad, for my brother Martin.

“This is for Cancer Research and the Holywell CIC youth centre – God bless.”
