A FIVE-year-old boy from Holywell is aiming to become the youngest amputee to climb Ben Nevis.

Albie-Junior will be taking on the challenge of walking Britain’s highest peak alongside his dad, Daniel Thomas and their good friend, celebrity, Paddy Doherty.

Last year, Albie became the youngest amputee to climb Snowdon, a feat that saw him shortlisted for the final 10 in the Amplifon Awards for Brave Britons 2022 Young Hero category.

Albie's Dad, Dan Thomas, a town councillor for Holywell, said: "When we finished Snowdon, he said it was easy! That's his mentality."

Dan also revealed how the money raised from the climb will help contribute towards his Community Interest Company (CIC) for a Youth Centre in Holywell, to help combat anti-social behaviour in the area - something which Dan is passionate about.

"This kind of centre will act as a way to reduce anti-social behaviours. As it's a CIC, I will need to get granting and funding."

The trio will also be raising money for Cancer Research in memory of Paddy’s late brother and friend of Dan's, Martin, who sadly passed away from the disease.

Dan added: "Martin was such a wonderful fella, so welcoming. I met Paddy through him. He introduced me to him and he's really friendly.

"Straight away when I mentioned the walk to him, he was on board. He was really keen on doing it and raising as much money as we can."

In a video posted on his Facebook page, Paddy said: “Please give what you can, whether it’s 50p or 5p. It’s all relevant. Just donate from your heart please.”

The walk will take place later this year with a date to be confirmed once Albie-Junior gets his new running blade.
