Holywell Leisure Centre is to offer free activities this September ahead of National Fitness Day.

National Fitness Day is a campaign to encourage people in the UK to prioritise their physical health to support their mental strength.

Holywell Leisure Centre is celebrating by opening its doors by playing host to a range of free events and taster sessions.

Dubbed the UK’s most active day of the year, National Fitness Day saw over 22 million people take part in some form of exercise in one day last year. This year looks to continue the trend by encouraging people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities to participate.

Holywell Leisure Centre manager, James Kerrigan said: “Holywell Leisure Centre is excited to be a part of National Fitness Day on September 21.

“This day is all about encouraging people to get up and get active, have some fun, and feel part of a community. The centre will be running events and activities throughout the day to help people get moving.

“This is a great opportunity for people of all ages and fitness levels to come along and try something new. For more information, please call us on 01352 355 100”.

Huw Edwards, CEO of ukactive, which coordinates the campaign, said: “Today, we are all faced with our own personal challenges, and it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by events at home and abroad– from the cost of living crisis and rising energy bills, to global conflict and war, or environmental concerns.

“That’s why this year, National Fitness Day is the perfect reminder for all of us to prioritise our health and wellbeing, whatever the challenges we face.

“Your local gym, pool, leisure centre, sports facility or online provider can help you to take the first step towards improving your physical and mental health, as well as to connect with other people in your community because fitness has a wonderful ability to unite us."

People are encouraged to get involved by using the hashtag #fitnessday in the build-up to event which will be held on Wednesday, September 21 by posting pictures and messages on social media showing how they stay active and why.
