A window cleaner has been left wondering what to do next after losing his licence for drink-driving.

Mark Anderson, of Pont Adam Crescent in Ruabon, appeared at Wrexham Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

The 35-year-old admitted that on July 28 he drove a Ford Transit on Church Street in Ruabon after consuming so much alcohol that the proportion of it in his breath exceeded the prescribed limit.

He was found to have 47 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, the limit being 35.

Ceri Nash, prosecuting, told the court officers on patrol in the Wrexham area were driving along High Street in Ruabon at about 8pm when they passed the Wynnstay Arms.

They caught sight of the defendant's vehicle - a distinctive white van with branding for a window cleaning enterprise - coming out of the pub's car park and decided to pursue him.

When he was pulled over, he made immediate admissions that he'd been drinking - telling the officers he'd had about four or five pints.

After giving a positive roadside sample, he was arrested and taken into custody.

Defending himself at the hearing, Anderson said: "I have never done anything like this before - it was a moment of madness.

"I feel embarrassed and ashamed.

"I understand a ban is imminent and it is going to affect me, being self employed.

"I am not sure what I am going to do yet, but I will have to figure it out.

"I would like to say that I am extremely sorry and I have learned my lesson."

District Judge Gwyn Jones fined him £250 and ordered him to pay £85 costs, as well as a £100 victim surcharge.

A driving ban of 12 months was also imposed.
